The Mission of the Outdoor Odyssey program is to provide youth with a unique wilderness challenge through which they will experience success as part of a team. Activities will be oriented to facilitate the bonding of youth with a mentor who will serve as the focal point for follow-on support in the community.

Outdoor Odyssey challenges youth, ages 8+, and their high school or college-age mentor to put dreams into action. Teams consisting of a mentor and two children experience a high adventure week of summer camp activities including rock climbing, caving, mountain biking, backpacking and much more.

While sharing the bonding experience that comes with outdoor adventure, mentors help children understand that they can overcome the obstacles they face in their daily lives. Children begin to unlock their potential and achieve personal milestones by hiking farther or climbing higher than they ever thought possible.

Following the week of summer camp, mentors keep the high-energy bond going by regularly spending time with their children during the school year. Weekend outings and on-camp refreshers are scheduled to help teams maintain their connection with the help of the Outdoor Odyssey staff, who also track progress of both the individual children and the team.

od•ys•sey (ôd'î-sê) n., pl. - seys[After the Odyssey, a  Homeric epic recounting the  wanderings of Odysseus after  the fall of Troy] 1: An extended,  adventurous wandering. 2: A  spiritual or intellectual quest.

Many of our volunteer mentors choose to work with their team of campers for several years, while others prefer to commit to one school year of service. The children themselves are encouraged to return as campers year after year until the day when they embrace the role of mentor, giving back what they've been given.
