Outdoor Odyssey is a proud sponsor site for the nationally recognized science and technology program
Starbase. We are one of forty Starbase sites nationwide. Starbase embraces fifth grade students
teaching science and technology in a "hands on" setting. Participating schools bring entire fifth
grades to Starbase for a five-day curriculum. Our classroom facilities can handle two classes a
day, so a school district with eight fifth grade classes will visit Starbase with two classes a day,
four times a week, over a five week period. Transportation is the only cost to the participating
district.

The five-day curriculum covers such topics as the scientific method, Newton's laws, Bernoulli's
principle, model rocketry, space exploration and more. Students that traditionally have trouble
with traditional classroom settings often flourish at Starbase in the "hands on" setting. Our goal
is to get young kids excited about Science and Technology at a young age and develop the confidence
to pursue these fields in the future.
An educational division of the United States Department of Defense sponsors Starbase. We proudly
partner with the United States Marine Corps helicopter detachment in Johnstown, Pa. Students spend
day five of the program at the Marine Corps base in Johnstown touring the hangar, visiting with
Marines, launching the rockets they have constructed and participating in a Starbase graduation
ceremony.
Starbase is truly an exciting educational endeavor for kids to experience. If you as a parent,
school administrator, or teacher have interest in our program check out our website at
www.starbasepa.org.
