| "In School" Follow Up |
Outdoor Odyssey prides itself on its emphasis on follow up. We feel that the impact that we make
over the summer is only the beginning of the success that our campers can achieve. While our
mentors have agreed to follow up with their campers during the school year after their summer
experience, our follow up support runs much deeper.
Outdoor Odyssey area coordinators meet with all campers quarterly in school. We set referral and
educational based goals with the campers to work on over the next marking period. The teachers,
counselors, and area coordinators determine these goals. The goals are shared with the mentors as
well. This gives the mentor something to work on with his/her kids. Our staff sets new goals every
quarter as it checks on the progress of the goals set prior.
We believe that setting these goals employs an accountability factor in these children's lives.
Kids are genuinely interested in achieving their goals because they don't want to let their mentors
down. By bringing together this "safety net" we can help these kids to be successful in school and
in life.
